WONDERFUL WORLD OF WIGS #51

First of all - Happy New Year!  Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous 2012!!  I feel so lucky to be doing what I love with people that I adore!  Now if I could only make love with Shequida then all my dreams will have come true.  I am kidding… I think…

The holidays are one of my favorite times of the year in NYC.  There is so much going on.  And one of the highlights among so many highlights is the Annual Bar d'O Reunion at Indochine.  This was the 7th anniversary of the legendary show we did 3 nights a week for 10 years in the West Village.  Starring the goddess herself, Joey Arias, with me, Sade Pendavis (the Queen of Gay Soul) and the Empress of Large, Flotilla deBarge.  Indochine was PACKED!!  You could not move.  And everyone was on fire.  Flotilla was hilarious, Sade soothing, Joey outrageous - I was having a blast.  But the evening almost didn't happen for me.  I spent hours getting ready - painted that face down, put on my new gown created by the amazing Angel and then had my hair snatched by Isaac and Matthew from WigBar.  WigBar turned it out - as always, and I felt glamorous and ready.  Just as we are walking out the door I thought, "Maybe I should bring the glue for the lace front just in case…"  Well blondes will be blondes and I didn't put the top on properly so when I grabbed the glue I literally threw the entire bottle on me!!  The dress and my legs were now covered in glue.  I was going to have a melt down but then said "fuck it" - removed the dress, threw on another Angel creation, wiped the glue off my legs (a familiar feeling lol) and was out the door in 3 minutes.  I had so much fun at Bar d'O that I didn't even think about it until the next morning when I woke up and had pajama fuzz glued to my legs!  I thought the brand new gown was ruined but luckily my maid, Bianca del Rio, was able to get all the glue out and the gown looks brand new again.  Whew!

The very next night we had our first holiday show at Therapy starring Joey Arias, Lady Bunny, Shequida, Epiphany and myself.  I've never seen Therapy that packed, especially on a Monday, and the "ladies" served it up!  Lady Bunny was offensively hysterical (if you haven't seen here one woman show, That Ain't No Lady, it's every Tues at Esquelitas and it's a MUST SEE!  Bunny just a rave review in the NY Times!!). Joey Arias brought some class to the night (imagine that! lol).  Shequida looked and sounded gorgeous.  I don't know how she does it.  She's 59 years old and still looks beautiful.  Kidding aside, the bitch looked hot.  Epiphany finally arrived also looking smashing and we all had a gay ole holiday time!  I wish I had a video of the dressing room downstairs where we were cackling with Stephen Knoll - that's a reality show!

I was invited to see ICONS at The Snapple Theatre.  Two performers (Dennis Williams and Brianna Andrews) present a wild ride of impersonations, costume changes, dancing and more.  It was hard to believe it was just two gals!  They worked so hard and the packed house was living for it.  I especially loved their Gaga and Beyonce!  here's the info:

One of the things on my list for 2012 is to see more Tina Burner!  I am obsessed.  Tina is outrageous and funny and over-the-top. Go Tina!!

For New Years Eve I performed at Club 1220 in Walnut Creek, a lovely suburb of San Francisco.  Porn star, Michael Brandon, puts together parties there and invited me out.  It was the perfect way to perform on NYE.  The bar was completely full with a mix of gay, lesbian and fun straight people - a great combo.  And everyone was sooooo nice!!  They loved the show, we welcomed in 2012, I watched the sexy go go boys and then

dashed to the hotel to get out of drag and get on the red eye flight back to NYC for my first show of 2012 at Barracuda!  I was a wreck but Barracuda did not let me down.  It was so crowded with fun, fabulous people that I was inspired and performed my sweat drenched foam titties off!  Here's to 2012!!!

WONDERFUL WORLD OF WIGS #50

I love this time of year because there are so many holiday shows.  And of course, my favorite, is my dear old friend Jackie Beat.  This year, my old friend, Jackie Beat, presented a holiday show at The Laurie Beechman Theatre called, Nutcracker!  Did I mention jackie is one of my OLDest friends??  Actually, we have been friends for 20 years and Jackie is the funniest, wittiest and most hysterical performer in the world - period!  Jackie knows no boundaries - from her twisted version of Santa Baby to her 'educational" parody of I Gotcha (Kwanzaa) to her over-the-top 18 minute medley of 80's pop songs - standing ovation!  You can catch Jackie Beat in NYC every Memorial Day and December.  Or late night in Port Authority!

I just got back from a little tour of Florida.  I did a show Friday night at Honey Pot in Tampa.  I'd been there once before and it's a blast - a real big club with a big gorgeous stage.  I had a lovely dinner with the owner Steve and his hubby Andy which was such a nice treat.  Usually I'm in and out - of the club people - and have no time to socialize.  And the show was fun - the queens there are super nice.  The next morning I had lunch at Hamburger Mary's with my Aunt and several cousins.  Then I whisked off to Saw Mill.  Saw Mill is a gay community in the heart of somewhere… lol, near Orlando.  There's a whole community that lives there year round and others that keep homes there for vacations and get-aways.  The show was a benefit for a local AIDS organization and many local queens came out to support. I met a hot tranny biker who brought her chopper around so we could do a photo shoot - HOT!  The people were wonderful.  I had to leave in the morning so miss the clothing optional pool!  lol.  I was off to perform for the first time in Jacksonville.  The owner of In Cahoots and her girlfriend picked me up and took me out for sushi - Southern Hospitality! The show at In Cahoots was a perfect way to end the tour - outrageous!  The other queens performing were cracking me up all night and the crowd was amazing.  And they tip like crazy!! What could make a New York Jewess happier??

I was beyond excited to participate in the return of the legendary 1990's rock party - Squeezebox!  Michael Schmidt's Squeezebox was one of my favorite nights EVER!!  Every Friday at Don Hills with DJ Miss Guy and hostess Misstress Formika. You never knew who was going to show up on any given night; Courtney Love, Green Day, Drew Barrymore, Joan Jett, Nina Hagen and on and on and on.  A very pansexual party that will be never be reproduced.  Sadly, Don passed away this year so this was a tribute party to honor the man who gave us gay (and gay friendly) rockers a home.  Onstage - myself, Jackie Beat, Miss Guy, Theo Kogan, Pat Briggs, Misstress Formika and legendary Jayne County!  If you don't know Jayne google her  -she started it all!!

A big thanks to Schmidt and Ron Guerra!!!

Please check out the new video by Eddy Barrena, State Of Grace, directed by the ultra talented Francis Legge.  Eddy has appeared in many of my videos and this is his first single.  The video looks gorgeous - congrat to the whole team!

WONDERFUL WORLD OF WIGS #49

It was a week of galas and events!!  First off, I attended the OUT 100 event with my roomie, Gusty Winds, and my "date" David Serrano, who was so sweet not to charge me a full nights fee.  We got dolled up because this is a classy gay event!  We were behind Miss Piggy on the red carpet but I couldn't get close enough to her for a picture.  She was definitely the biggest star there!  I finally got to meet one of my favorite YouTube stars, Drew Droege, who does "Chloe Sevigny" in a series of over-the-top monologues.  The room was huge and they throw the one party where there's a bar at every turn so you never have to wait for a cocktail - thanks queen.  DJ Daddy Dynell was O-Vaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!  No one can touch him.

A few nights later we got all dolled up again for The Glammys.  Cherry Jubilee has been organizing this drag spectacular for 13 years now.  I love it so much because it's the only night out of the whole year where everyone who has ever worn a wig twirls thru!  Splash was packed with "ladies" and it's fun to see so many of the gals.  Peppermint served it up with a live band, dancers, even entering in a bubble!!  Go gurl.  It was so crazy crowded actually that I was hanging out by the back bar and wasn't sure what was going on… lol.  But I know someone must have finally felt sorry for Bianca del Rio as she was awarded Best Floor Shiner of the Year.  Congrats chic.

Then the next night I got dolled up yet again to attend the opening of Lady GaGa's Workshop at Barneys.  Alas, on this red carpet they had no idea who I was lol- YET!  But I had a great time and it was so sweet of them to think of me and invite me.  I wonder if everyone had a postscript on their invite saying, "Please do not come dressed as Lady GaGa"??  LOL.  Trust me - go check out the workshop - it's fucking amazing!!!

I spent Thanksgiving on a plane flying to Ireland for 2 shows.  I didn't trust Delta to serve a turkey dinner so I grabbed a plate of turkey, mashed potatoes, yams and cranberry sauce at the Amish Market (btw, I have never seen an Amish person in there) and ate it on the plane.  This was my first time in Ireland so I was very excited and they did not disappoint.  Dublin is a great city - beautiful, crazy, energetic.  The show at The George was a big hit and I hung out quite late chatting with the lads.  The next morning I was driven to Waterford.  A beautiful 2 hour drive thru the country.  I performed at Dignity and again - had a blast!  Very nice people.  Partied with Charmin.  Then I had to get out of drag, drive back to Dublin to fly home.  I can't wait to return to Ireland and spend some time there!

WONDERFUL WORLD OF WIGS #48

Just went to see Immortals and it turned me on so much that I decided to write this weeks column which also turns me on immensely.  And it has nothing to do with the Percocet Francis Legge gave me.  So much happened in the past week and it has a roller-coaster of FUN!  Oh hunty, let's start with my show in Windsor, Ontario.  I flew into Detroit and Roger, the owner of Legends in Windsor, picked me up and smuggled me into Canada to save the 150CD it costs for a visa.  Usually I'm the mule not in one!  The show was crazy fun - it's a small gay scene so they were excited for the show.  Everyone was very nice and grateful.  One thing I do appreciate about Canada is that the go go dancers get totally naked!  Roger kept saying, "Wait until you see this one guy".  Well he got onstage, very cute and about 5'3", but adorable.  Well hunty, when he took his undies off he unleashed a 9" pecker!  It was shocking!!  Go Canada!

The next morning I made my way to Albany to perform at Isis Vermouth's party at Rocks.  I've played there several times before and Isis always knows how to throw a party.  It wasn't as packed as it usually is but the people there were ready to get down!  We were celebrating Tracy von Becker's birthday and the engagement of Tracy and genius videographer, Francis Legge.  The best part of the evening was meeting the Da CucKoo gang!  Da Cuckoo is a Brazilian artists who is moving to NYC in March.  Not full drag but not full club kid, her look is gorgeous and outrageous.  And she can perform!  There's a whole team working together (which always inspires me) and they are creating tracks, music, videos, costumes, sets, etc.  And they are all sooooo sweet!!!  Look out NYC  - Da CucKoo is coming!!

I was asked a few months ago to be a model for the annual Chocolate Fair.  They do a fashion show where everything is made out of chocolate.  I was Auntie Mame and the gown, sleeves, etc were all edible!  Now you know I don't eat but did sneak nibble on the hem just to have a taste.  It was fucking freezing in the dressing room and the other models (yes, me and a room of 22 year old Eastern European girls!) were shivering and then I realized, "Duh - everything here is chocolate".  But in the time I stumbled down the catwalk and tumbled back my gown was running down my legs!  lol.  So fun and for a good cause!  Check out the pics on RogueConfections.com

The next day I was off to Toronto (this time with a visa!) to perform for Grapefruit's 9 year anniversary.  This party was kicking!!  It's a big club and it was packed and they were digging the show.  I love performing for a crowd that knows my videos - they knew the words to Shit My Pants lol.  What a hoot!  DJ Shane took good care of me; dinner, great hotel, etc.  If you make it Toronto check the party out.  But a warning - if you fly in or out of the city airport (which is downtown and VERY convenient) bring a snack and a latte!  There ain't nothing inside!

I believe in helping the elderly so I visited Lady Bunny at the LGBT Senior Center and asked her to be my special guest at my Sunday show at Barracuda.  She was hilarious as always and knocked the packed room out.  But once the gas had she took the stage and they also loved her show!  Bunny's show "That Ain't No Lady" is running every Tuesday at Esquelita - don't miss it!

One last bit of news - I've started filming for a new variety show called, SHE'S LIVING FOR THIS, for Here TV that will premiere in Feb.  This is a life long dream come true!  The show is very Carol Burnett, The Cher Show, Donny and Marie with a sprinkle of Miss Piggy!  Every week will feature song, skits, special guests, sexy dancers, a gay soap opera, parodies and more!!

Wonderful World of Wigs #47

After the snow storm the other night I finally had to accept that summer is over and I should be thankful for the 3 days of fall we had.  Crazy weather but the next day was lovely and there was no sign of the previous night.  There are mornings I wake up wishing there was no sign of the previous night.  lol.

I recently returned to Bill's Filling Station in Ft. Lauderdale to perform for their 16th Anniversary!  So much fun as always!!  They know how to treat a "lady" - limo service, 2 bedroom deluxe suite, Jack Daniels in the dressing room and paid before the show!  Love you guys- thanks again and here's to another 16 years!

I also returned to The Monster on a Wednesday night to perform with my bubble, the legendary Jesse Volt!!!  OMG I love Jesse more than anything.  Jesse will come out and give you old school house diva in a sequined gown then come back out, complete head to toe costume change, and knock your socks off as Siouxsie Sioux!!  WORSHIP! Her other guest was recent Florida transplant, the alluring Roxy Brooks!  Roxy is new to drag and very new to NYC but you would never know it watching her - her act is polished and her face is beat for the goddess!!  And super sweet.  I highly recommend checking out this show, it's every Wed at The Monster.

The next day I was off to Chicago to perform at North Illinois University, about an hour form O'Hare Airport.  I was a bit nervous performing at a college event because some of my parodies are slightly off color lol.  But you know the kids, they love the filth!  And luckily they all live on YouTube so had seen all my videos.  And they still invited me!  lol.  I have done several college events, usually for Gay/Straight Alliance Groups which are very important to me, but this was the biggest by far.  About 600 people showed up and it was a real PARTY!  Albeit, a dry party, but a great party nonetheless.  Happy Diversity Week to NIU!

My dear friend, Christian Mitchell, who works for MAC, had the premiere exhibition of his art called Mental Circus last week.  The weather was still nice so I strolled to the Bowery with Joey Arias where we met up with family; Ricky Salazar, Stella Amar, Dov and Mathias.  Christian's work is inspiring and everyone was blown away.  We had dinner down the street and I walked home full of gratitude for the amazing friends in my life.

Speaking of sperm - check out the newest video parody from The Halfway Haus of Vine, Francis Legge and Wigbar.com!!  It's a parody of Rihanna's We Found Love called We Found Sperm - nothing but class here folks!

Also, remember, That Ain't No Lady starring Lady Bunny has been extended and is now playing every Tues thru Nov at Esquelita.  HEE HAW LARIOUS!

Hello children of the corn!  Fall is officially here and it's ROCKtober! YAY!!!  Lips Restaurant celebrated their 15 year anniversary with a bash and all the "ladies" of the night shows up.  So nice to see so many queens I rarely see- wish it was more often!  The show was great!  The girls really are so talented - if you haven't been there or it's been a long time, visit the new gorgeous space.  Here's to another 15 Lips!

Antyon La Monte and Jonny Purse are throwing a weekly brunch party, Sunday Funday, every Sunday at Cafe 50 at 3pm.  It's soooo fun and the place gets packed!  They present a different performer every week and I was there recently.  Sexy rocker DJ Ian El Dorado keeps the place pumping and Roxy Couture turns it out.  How does Roxy have so much energy at 3pm??  And the food is delicious - so I've been told as I obviously don't eat.  This is a perfect Sunday brunch - check her out.

Months ago I was part of Peppermint's event at Therapy for Project Achieve and was so inspired by her dedication to this awesome organization that I said to the little lady in my head, "Hey whore.  Yes, you perform at lots of benefits but can you do more?  Instead of watching 6 hours of TV a day can you devote a portion of that time to something important?  Will you ever eat again??"  I decided no - I won't eat again.  BUT I do have time to do something and literally the next day I got asked to participate in an event called LOVE DIAMONDS.  They are working on a cure, yes CURE, for AIDS thru stem cell research.  And they have had success!  So I am now officially part of this exciting break thru research and organizing benefits.  The first was an enormous success and thanks to all the talent who turned it out; Shequida, Epiphany, Chris Go Go Harder, Molly Pope, Danny Blu, Robert Galinsky and Jodi Katz.  And congrats to Kambiz, Logan, Gabe and the team at WestSide Fragrances for their work. Cure AIDS!

I've been in NYC more this month than I have in 2 years so I've made an effort to check out as many shows as possible.  I was so thrilled to attend the Bianca Leigh show, Busted, The Musical.  I have known Bianca for years and have always been a fan of her glamour and talent and she's sooooo sweet!  Did I mention the bitch is GORGEOUS?  I was blown away!  The show was fabulash - funny, touching, brave, insightful and inspiring.  Bianca is a real actress and singer (she also wrote many of the songs!) and her stories were captivating!  If she brings the show back, which she should, be sure not to miss it.

Video director to the star, Mangela Transbury (a.k.a. Francis Legge) and I churned out 2 new videos recently; Americano (Well Hung Latino) and Marry The Night (Hairy and Tight) and premiered both at Barracuda for a Double Feature Late Night Picture Show!  Please check them out on YouTube or sherryvine.com

And don't forget to see Lady Bunny's riotously hysterical laugh fest, That Ain't No Lady, at Esquelita every Tues thru Nov.

Wonderful World of Wigs #45

Hello Children of The Corn!  ROCKtober is upon us!  Go to YouTube, search Ronnie James Die "Stand Up and Shout" and get in the mood!!  I performed in Las Vegas last month for their Gay Pride and had sooooo much fun.  They really know how to treat a lady out there.  I could live in hotel rooms when they're as big and comfy as the one I had in Vegas.  I did a show Thursday night at Escape - the place was full of queens and go go boys so what's not to like.  Lol.  Then Friday night I performed at their Latin night at Good Times.  Again, I had a blast.  The queens out there are so nice and we were screaming in the dressing room all night.  My dear friend Edie, who is starring in Zumanity, popped by for a drinkie.  I took the little bit of make up I wear off and headed to the airport for a 6am flight back.

The next morning I was up at 6am again and on my way to Six Flags in MA for their Gay Day.  I did it last year and was so happy they invited me back.  Usually, I am not a fan day drag but it's so fun at this event.  Everyone is in a great mood and they loved hearing songs about poop at 2 in the afternoon.  But who wouldn't?

There's a new night on Tuesdays at Bartini, Beat That Face.  Conceived and hosted by Holly Dae;  new queens come by, get painted up by a "seasoned" performer and then compete for a cash prize.  I was one of the old timers, er - I mean, seasoned artists and I painted "first time in drag" Miss Sophie.  We had so much fun downstairs painting, cracking up and being silly.  But the girls all turned it out!  Also onstage; Prada G Major, Tilly, Yuhua and Princess Agrios Skyla.

For my monthly residency in Washington, DC I took 4 dancers down with me so we could perform my original song, Looking For A Good Time.  The sexy and talented boys; Ricky JMV, Pedro, Dane and Antyon joined me and we had a blast!  After bitching at them to be on time and organized, which they were, I was the one who had forgotten to buy myself a Bolt Bus ticket!  lol.  And it was sold out AND it was pouring rain.  So there's bitter me walking in the rain with a suitcase and wig bag, fuming, to the train station.  Luckily a train was leaving right as I got in so in 10 minutes I was sitting and comfy and Dane sent this hilarious picture of himself naked just covered in money so I smiled and passed out - whew!  But once we got to DC everything was gorgeous.  The party was amazing and they loved the show.  We did the number the next afternoon for the 17th St Festival then hopped back on the bus for the ride home - cackling the whole way.  Those queens were trying to find people on Grindr in bum fuck Jersey.

Don't miss Lady Bunny's one "woman" show - That Ain't No Lady, every Tues in October at Esquelita.

Wonderful World of Wigs #44

Recently I've had some good times out of town and some amazing times right here in the Big Apple.  I made my first trip to Brownsville, Texas for a show at a new gay club.  I didn't know where it was so I looked her up on MapQuest and discovered that Brownsville is right on the border to Mexico - lucky me!  Lol.  The party was sooooo fun; everyone was super nice and appreciative, very cute boys, and I know how to say "Jack and Ginger" in Spanish!  The next morning I jetted to Houston for a show at my home away from home there, Guava Lamp.  They always treat me very well.  The joint was packed for the show and then after the show Kara and Violet took me to a strip club - I had 1/2 a drink and had to exit before I got into too much trouble.  Lol.

Back in NYC!  Being recently single, I've been trying to go out more - especially to see shows!  Thursday night the must see show is Queen at Industry hosted by Shequida.  I always have a great seat in the DJ booth with my brother David Serrano.  This show featured Shequida, Tina Burner (one of my new favorites!!!), Skyla (watch out, this bitch can DANCE!), Bootsie (in her best John Travolta drag!) and the alluring, flawless Princess Janae.  I'd never seen her before and I am a fan!  Kudos to Shequida for putting together a new and rehearsed group show every week  -costumes, choreography, and more!

While I don't usually get invited to shows during Fashion Week (why doesn't Conways have a tent show???) I was invited to the Project Runway reunion party as a guest with my dear friend Suede.  He designed an adorable retro dress for me, picked me up and was the perfect gentleman all night!  The party was fabulous!  It was exciting to see many of the past season's designers I've met as well as meet many I didn't know.  Joshua McKinley, from the recent season, was there.  I've known him for years from Barracuda - good luck gurl!!!

The dear and SINsational Julie Atlas Muz asked me to participate in an epic benefit to honor the victims and families of 9/11.  There was an incredible roster of artists; many I hadn't seen in years.  I was so happy to be a part of this event and everyone who worked on it turned it out!!!  It was moving, funny, touching, inspiring and motivating.  I opened the show with New York, New York (a deceivingly difficult song to sing) and my legs were shaking as I came out on the HIghline Ballroom stage to a packed house but I managed to get thru it.  Then I got to relax and sit upstairs with The Serranos and be moved and entertained.  Congrats and homage to everyone who participated!

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WIGS #43

Hey hunty!  So much to gab about!  The past few weeks have been a wiggy whirlwind.  Let's start with Lady Bunny; after all, she started drag thousands of years ago.  Bunny (who can currently be seen on RuPaul's Drag U) did a one night only show at Therapy and packed the place!  I don't know what she paid them but they all came.  Tee hee.  Bunny is the funniest, craziest, kookiest performer in the world.  She knows no boundaries and is absolutely HEE-HAW-LARIOUS!  From her Laugh-In inspired "take no prisoners" celebrity medley to her Amy Winehouse tribute, Bunny had us rolling in the aisles!  Bunny doesn't perform in NYC very often so be sure to catch her one woman show in October at Esquelita!

Speaking of Drag U, one of my favorite Alumni, Pandora Boxx, performed recently at Industry.  I met Pandora on the Allure Atlantis Gay Cruise and we instantly clicked.  We are definitely cut from the same cloth.  I had a blast with her and her adorable hubby!  But I had never seen her perform live and she did not disappoint!  She was hysterical - lots of stand up, great songs I had never heard before and then she treated us to her new original single, My Cooter!  You will love it!!  And just wait for the video directed by Greg Scarnici!

I was invited to DC (by invited I mean that they paid me! lol) to perform at a Ginger Party at JR's near DuPont Circle.  They wanted me to sing my ginger tribute FireCrotch (a parody of FireWork).  Sooooo fun!!  There were plenty of reds and they got to drink for free.  Well, they suffer so much the rest of the year it's the least they deserve.  I'M KIDDING!!  The party was a hoot and then I stumbled over to Cobalt where I was a guest judge for their underwear contest.  HOT!!  About 11 contestants, looking sexy, I didn't have to sing (what a relief for the audience) = Good Times!

I awoke the next morning at 6am, yes 6am, to make my way to Fire Island with my bbf Feathers.  We got in the car, load up on lattes and hit the turnpike.  We were racing to FI to try to get one day of sun before "Hurricane" Irene descended.  I was booked for a show at Blue Whale.  Well around exit 4 I received a text that the show was canceled and island was being evacuated.  So we just drove to NYC for a weekend of debauchery!  Ended up playing Kinect Friday night (obsessed!).  Saturday I met some friends at Ninth Avenue Salon at 3pm for what was supposed to be one beer!  Well, we all know that story.  After numerous shots and booze we crawled around Hell's Kitchen; BarTini, Posh, Therapy, Industry.  The only places open were the bars!  They tried to scare us into buying batteries and supplies for the hurricane but we passed out and woke up the next morning, sleeping right thru it.  Thankfully there was no catastrophe in the city and the worst thing that happened was we could't find lattes!
